    New X10 touch screen

    Just thought I would post this news.
    There is a new X10 based touch screen on the market, well actually there is 2. I'm waiting on more info on the second, plus then I will have to translate it from Spanish to English
    The first one is a small 3.6" touch screen controller. This can be wall or desk mounted. Does require a CM11 or CM12 as the X10 interface. Prices around the 510 euros mark. So not cheap. But if you look at some other stand alone controllers its not bad value. Have attached a PDF brochure about it.

    The second one has taken a while to come to the market and is a 5.7" touch screen X10 based controller, this one needs an XM10 interface. Has an RS232 and RS485 ports for interfacing and an RJ45 socket for connection to a network so its accessible via the internet. Has a built in temp sensor. There will be an option for a GSM modem via the RS232 port as well. So sms message to and from the unit will be possible.
    Can be set to either Spanish, English and Portuguese . I'm just waiting on more info then will let you know. Price I reckon could be around the 1500 to 1800 euros mark.

    That's good news and a step closer to a fully integrated home automation system of my dreams. I, on the other hand, am still having problems getting my iPhone to control my X10 stuff. Thinking about it - isn't the iPhone 3.7 inch? Wouldn't it be cheaper to embed a iPod touch into a wall?

      Hmmm. Yes but you would still need an x10 controller. Unless someone builds an itouch /iPodX10 interface.
      Hold on lets do a quick Google and see. And guess what its almost there.

      I reckon some sort of USB style interface could be possible so a lead to the Cm15 might be more plausible.

      I've got the details of the bigger screen just got to translate it in to English price is about 1500 euros. (ouch)

        Finally translated the other touch screen document.
        Don't know who this one is made by though. Price is as feared 1500 euros.
        Kind of expensive. But it does have loads of interface potential.
        The special interface module is a din rail mounted 8 digital input and 8 digital outputs with a built in RF module that links to the Eyetouch via the RS485 port. The RF is for sensors, such as temp.
        There will be coming a GSM module which connects to the RS232 port. At an expo last year they had a mock up of one with PIR sensors and access keypads connected to the interface module. The module uses a 12V DC and this power supply is also din mounted.

          I've built an Atom based PC with 7" usb touchscreen for around half the cost of the cheaper touch screen, although haven't managed to get it to work over a network via usb->network converter. So I get touchscreen control and it's not dedicated to X10 either, so I run two other HA systems in parallel to my X10 equipment.

          I really can't understand why its so expensive to buy dedicated touchscreen equipment, when you can buy better spec. components cheaper.

            Chaps, I am going the same way (touch screen) but after weeks of research, I am going for a cheap purpose built touch screen (7") and whats more, you have a choice of CE or XP, and all for around £600.

            I am going for the CE version, on the basis I can knock up a system which will do all I want (control my X10 devices via a communication back to the main controlling server), list my videos, control my videos, steros, display photos as a screen saver, plus CE devices have instant shutdown startup (unlike XP which is slow).

              I use a Viewsonic smart panel. Which is a wireless CE device that logs into my PC via RDP. Got it off ebay for about 300 euros a couple of years ago.
