    Audio on Startup

In the past I haven't used the audio and intercom features of Cortex / Idratek as I've had no need and my computer didn't support the connections. However, recently this has changed as I've moved to an i3 / Mini-ITX setup. However, I don't get any sound from my DFP> I haven't ruled out a wiring problem but I noticed the following error on stratup:

    16:27:49 Initialisation: Configuring nodes
    16:27:49 > Sound
    16:27:49 > 1201052F
    16:27:49 < 180020255D
    16:27:49 Unknown Network Error=37, World, Node=0020
    16:27:49 > Sound
    16:27:49 > 12010420
    16:27:49 < 180020255D
    16:27:49 Unknown Network Error=37, World, Node=0020
    16:27:49 > Sound
    16:27:49 > 12010320
    16:27:49 < 180020255D
    16:27:49 Unknown Network Error=37, World, Node=0020
    16:27:49 > Sound
    16:27:49 > 12010220
    16:27:49 < 180020255D
    16:27:49 Unknown Network Error=37, World, Node=0020
    16:27:49 > Sound
    Anyone know what this means?

Either you are using a PCD or there is a problem with your PCU. If using latter then please e-mail me a node profile analysis of your world object (network interface module).

The audio error on startup is now resolved and required a module swap from Karam. However my frustration continues as Cortex is unable to produce any sound.

I've tested the audio output from the PC and with a headset plugged into green, speaker output and pink, mic input I can play sounds and hear them. Starting up Cortex and using the default audio sounds I get nothing. Anyone got an ideas as I getting very frustrated

First ensure that Cortex is set up to use audio. Visit Sound object behaviour menu and select Audio options tab. In that menu ensure that the PCA sound prompts and audio network enabled checkboxes are ticked and also that speech enabled is checked. Other settings are not relevant for a PCU. Next click on the English engines button and in speech options select the engine options tab. Ensure the volume slider is not at 0 (suggest you go for 100% at first). Follow similar procedure for Translation engine options.

In Windows 7 the volume controls are for the present not handled by Cortex but by the systems sound controls, so ensure that volume levels are set up appropriately outside of Cortex.

In the Sound object behaviour menu select sound prompts menu. Ensure that any entries are pointing to the correct directory for the source of the sound file. Also for testing add in some spoken phrases using Add speech button.

With Cortex network running and headphones plugged into PC right click over a sound prompt and click on Go. Did you hear the sound played? If so then so good so far. Next step is to plug the PCU audio cables in (mic icon on PCU to mic socket on PC and spkr to spkr). Now you need to ensure that the DFP intercom object is set up appropriately, e.g for testing at least you should enable it to receive broadcasts and also to be active at all times. Next you need to create some sort of sound trigger for testing, for example you could program a button connection to play a sound or simply get the button to speak itself (i.e button x has been pressed). Visit the buttons annunciation options for various possible options.

          Karam,

Thanks for the pointers it turned out to be something much simpler. At work we call this problem PICNIC (problem in chair not in computer). I was miss-reading the audio controller screen and check boxes instead of unchecking. Meaning Cortex was muting the channel rather what I was expecting of unmuting.
