Hey everyone, I just wanted to make a post to acknowledge the fact that I've been pretty quiet for most of the initial 6-9 months since Mark handed over the reins.
There were a couple of reasons for that.
1. I wanted to make sure the forums and site were functioning and stable. The forums were way more of a challenge than I could have ever anticipated, but hopefully we're stable now. The site moved from the .co.uk domain to the .com domain a couple of weeks ago and things seem to be steady there too.
But if you ever notice an issue with either the website or the forums, please let me know because maybe we're just not aware of the issue yet.
2. The other reason for being quiet was because I wanted to take some time to think about what type of content to share. I'm probably the least knowledgeable person with regard to smart homes here on the forums, but what I can bring to the table is to share my journey and my learnings along the way.
As much as reasonably possible, I will try to choose products and services that are widely available in the US, UK and Australia just so that what I'm sharing can be most relevant. I live in Asia and there are some brands here that aren't available more broadly in the rest of the world, so I'll try my best to avoid those obscure brands and keep things as universal as possible.
A quick note on my spelling and use of language because I know it drives some people nuts at times 😂
Yes, I'm Aussie and yes, we use UK spelling down under. However, after years of living in Asia, some time as an English teacher where I was required to teach only US English and the fact that more people around the world use US English than UK English, you'll often notice that I use US spelling and some US phrases from time to time.
...and then at other times I'll completely forget that plan and write something using UK English 😅
Anyway, I just shared a video that I recorded a couple of months ago. We've since bought some cool products that I'll be sharing more details about soon, but I thought it would be good for the archives to show the way things look at the start of my journey.
Have a good day, cheers.
