Austrian smart home brand Loxone have been going from strength to strength over the last few years. We talked to UK CEO Philipp Schuster to get some hard figures and garner his opinion on the state of the UK market…
Hi Philipp, can you give us some idea of how well Loxone’s Smart Home system is selling in the UK?
Hi Automated Home. Our turnover increased from 21.5M Euro in 2014 to 45M Euro in 2015.
With a growth in the UK market of 108% things are incredibly buoyant for Loxone.
Loxone seem to be on a roll with new product releases too?
Yes, we had around 25 brand new products in 2015 and we have launched 13 in the first half of this year (eg Tree) with more to come.
We’re also working on some very exciting software releases which we’ll be announcing soon.
Tell us about the new ‘Touch Pure’ device?
Last month we launched the new Touch Pure, a switch available for both Tree and Air technologies with a more designer feel. We’ll have more products in the Pure range to follow over the coming months too.
So how many homes have Loxone systems installed in them right now?
Since we started in 2009 there have been over 40,000 homes fitted with Loxone Smart Home systems. Approximately 1.6 Miniservers go live every hour.
What about the retro-fit friendly wireless Loxone Air system?
The Loxone Air system is just 16 months old and we already have over 41,000 modules installed in 9,000 homes.
Can you give us an idea of the average price of a dimmer circuit on a Loxone system?
Our dimmer technology is available from around £17 per circuit for 24V PWM LEDs . We can run lighting over wired (DMX) or wireless (Loxone Air) systems.
What other systems does Loxone connect with?
We’ve worked with many third party systems, for example Geiger SolidLine Air, Aquastar Air, BMW Wallbox integration, KEBA Wallbox and Fronius PV inverters. Not only that, but we have a huge range of Extensions for integrating other interfaces such as DALI, DMX, Modbus etc.
Do you offer training in the UK?
Yes. We currently have close to 10,000 trained Loxone Partners around the world, even as far as Australia. This year we launched our ‘Advanced Training’ courses in the UK to meet the demand from our Partners for further training around the more advanced aspects of the system too such as home cinemas, e-mobility integration etc. In 2015, we trained over 5,000 people (across UK & Europe) on our Expert Training Courses, which are CEDIA accredited.
So how many employees does it take to run all this?
We currently export to 99 countries and we have over 250 staff in total world wide. We are continuously recruiting, both in the UK and Austria (and our other subsidiary offices). We expect to be 11-12 in the UK by the end of the year and we are always keen to receive speculative applications.
Thanks, what’s the best place to find out more about a Loxone system
