LIFX is Amazing New WiFi IP LED Multi-Colour Light Bulb

Kickstarter is always throwing up cool tech these days and this is no exception.  LIFX is a WiFi enabled, multi-color, energy efficient LED light bulb that you control with a free app from your iPhone or Android device. The system can address bulbs individually or as a group and they can even be used to flash as notifications for say receiving an email.  An SDK and ‘hacker kit’ are promised so hopefully this could lead to integration with home automation systems,  The bulbs will be available in Bayonet cap, Edison Screw and Downlighter form factors and LIFX say it can connect to all country electricity systems from 110V to 260V. Check out the video below…

What is LIFX? LIFX is the smartest light bulb you’ve ever experienced. It’s a wifi-enabled, energy efficient, multi-colored bulb that you control with your iPhone or Android. LIFX gives you unprecedented control of your lights, reduces your energy costs, lasts up to 25 years and delivers an amazing range of experiences we think you’ll love.

Sets up in Seconds LIFX is incredibly easy to set-up. Simply replace your existing bulbs with LIFX smartbulbs, download and install our free app from the App Store or Google Play and you’re good to go.

The Tech LIFX uses a master/slave concept to connect to your home router via 802.11n and then onto all the other LIFX smartbulbs via IPV6 802.15.4 mesh network. Each LIFX can connect to all country electricity systems from 110V to 260V. This includes USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia and 95% of other countries around the world.

  1. Ive seen this before it may even be on the market I think it’s made by Phillips in Europe .

  2. There are quite a few similar – http://autoho.me/Ro2OQ2http://autoho.me/UgTkYzhttp://autoho.me/U7u3Ez – but this one looks to have really good feature set.

  3. Nice product and a great video. A few questions remain unanswered though:
    – What is the price per bulb? Having the wifi hardware in each bulb cannot be cheap…

    – Can I still use my light switches? App control is great and we love it, but lets be honest do you ALWAYS want to get your smartphone out to turn the light on. What do you do if you are on the phone…

  4. will need some wifi enabled light switches to go with that 🙂
