Our Cheatsheet of All the News from Apple WWDC Keynote

Apple’s 2015 WWDC keynote has just finished.

HomeKit ‘has been taking off’ and Apple are adding support for window shades (blinds) plus ‘all types of sensors’ and security systems. Plus you can control your home no matter where you are now too (with an Apple TV).

Home control information is coming to Apple Watch ‘complications’ and Siri will also supports HomeKit commands from the wearable, for example – ‘Set the dinning scene’.

  • ‘Beats 1’ – a 24/7 Global Radio Station from New York, LA & London

  • Android support coming this Autumn

  • $14.99 / month for up to 6 family members (complete with individual accounts & recommendations etc).

iPad

  • Split screen multi-tasking (at last)
  • Picture in Picture for watching video while working in an app
  • ‘Quick type’ keyboard enhancements
  • 2 fingers dragged on keyboard becomes a track pad

iOS

  • iOS9 – Improvements in Battery Life, Performance, Adding Intelligence
  • Siri – API for app searches
  • Many other context sensitive improvements
  • Google Now style proactive reminders, but all done ‘on device’ for your privacy
  • New ‘Transit’ Public Transport map app
  • ‘News’ app for mobile magazine style reading a la Flipboard
  • CarPlay will go wireless
  • Public Beta in July (for first time)
  • Free Upgrade coming this Autumn

OSX

  • OSX 10.11 ‘El Capitan’
  • Will focus on improving Experience & Performance
  • Public Beta in July
  • Free Upgrade coming this Autumn

Apple Pay

  • Coming the UK next month
  • 250,000 UK Locations at launch
  • Accepted on London Public Transport
  • New reader from Square to accept Apple Pay
  • Passbook now renamed to Wallet
