QED Live uPlay Bluetooth Receiver

The guys over at CyberSelect sent us the low down on this little beauty.  The QED Live uPlay Bluetooth Receiver is a boon for anyone with an iPhone, or other Bluetooth enabled device that wants to stream music wirelessly across to their hifi…

“If you own an iPod, iPhone, or other Bluetooth enabled device such as a phone, PDA or computer, then the QED Live uPlay Bluetooth Receiver (affectionately known as the uPlay ‘Puck’) is for you. Using the uPlay Puck, you can use any of these devices to wirelessly play your mobile music library on your Hi-fi system or or any amplifier with a stereo or line input.

The QED Live uPlay Bluetooth Receiver has a range of 5 to 10m (depending on surroundings and angle) you can effortlessly navigate and select your favourite music from the comfort of your chair! NB. It will not work through walls.
How it works

uPlay uses the very latest BlueCore 5 Bluetooth and apt-X audio encoding technology to wirelessly stream high quality audio from your iPod, iPhone, or other Bluetooth enabled device, to any Hi-Fi system or audio device with a stereo or line input. uPlay consists of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter connects to your Bluetooth enabled device, while the receiver is connected to your audio system. Once both are in place, they will ‘pair’ and you’ll control and enjoy your favourite music remotely.

Setup is easy: once the receiver is connected to your audio system, simply perform a scan on your Bluetooth enabled device, and pair it with the uPlay.  The QED Live UPlay Bluetooth Receiver is compatible with:

  • iPhone 3G and 3GS iPod Touch – 2nd and 3rd generation
  • Bluetooth enabled PDAs and mobile phones
  • Bluetooth enabled computers and Netbooks

QED Live UPlay Bluetooth Receiver kit includes:

  • 1 x QED Live UPlay Bluetooth Receiver
  • 1 x 3.5mm stereo jack to 2 RCA phono adaptor cable

  1. I can transfer via BT from my mobile to my PC through in two separate room with doors closed.. So why can’t the “puck”?

  2. Hi AC,

The puck uses Bluetooth technology which depending on the surroundings does have the ability to pass through thin walls. The power of the signal is actually controlled by the transmitter (your phone) and completely out of the Pucks Control. If your PC can pick up the signal from your phone then the Puck will also be able to.
The statement of not passing through walls is normally made as wireless signals cannot pass through all walls and therefore cannot be made.
    Hope this helps,

  3. Hey, I’m having trouble getting the QED connected with my Macbook Pro. It worked straight out of the box and stayed connected all day when I first used it. However I haven’t managed to connect them since. It says congratulations your computer is now connected with the device in the bluetooth setup assistant, but it says it’s not connected in the bluetooth preferences window. I’ve tried clearing the pairing list on both devices and unplugging the QED. It works like a charm with my iPhone 3GS. Any suggestions please???? Thank you.
