I’ve been searching for a replacement for the VLC app which has has been out of the UK iOS App store again since last year.
The recent update to v3 brings support for DTS and DTS-HD audio. This adds to the already impressive list of codecs that Infuse can playback and means less time transcoding, allowing you to watch almost any video format on your iPhone or iPad without having to convert them first.
In addition to copying your video files over to your device to play away from home, you can browse and stream videos stored on your PC, Mac, NAS, or from UPnP/DLNA apps like Plex, Kodi (XBMC).
The app also includes support for Trakt syncing as well as AirPlay and subtitle support. It’s been optimised for iOS 8 and the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, for gorgeous hardware accelerated 1080p playback.
Play just about anything, including the standard MP4, M4V and MOV…plus MKV, AVI, WMV, MTS, FLV, OGM, OGV, ASF, 3GP, DVR-MS, WebM, and WTV. Includes fully certified Dolby® Digital Plus (AC3/E-AC3), DTS® and DTS-HD® audio.
The features go on and on, Gesture Control, support for playback from the Mophie Space Pack, AirStash, SanDisk Connect, and other Wi-Fi drives. Automatic cover art and metadata for your movies and TV shows are automatically pulled from TheMovieDB and TheTVDB too.
We’ve linked to the £7.99 ‘Pro’ version which we were able to add to our kids iPads using Family Sharing (something that may not be possible with the version that uses the in-app purchase from what we’ve read). Recommended.
