Since getting my big-ass phone (update: I’ll never go back to a smaller screen) I needed something suitable to hold it in my car.
My affliction with always trying to get the best tool for the job means I have to research these things to the nth degree, but I’m glad I did as there’s a mountain of crap out there.
The usual simple sucker has been replaced with one incorporating a sticky gel pad so it will fix securely to most surfaces, including textured ones like your dashboard (although I’ve not tried this as I use mine on the windscreen). I’ve moved it between cars and the pad removes cleanly and can be rinsed with warm water to reuse.
There’s a two-step locking lever, the first locking position can be used for flat, smooth surfaces while the second locking position can be used on curvy textured surfaces that may require more grip. The telescopic arm extends up to 2 inches to help get your phone into the ideal position.

The ‘Easy One Touch’ mounting system allows you to lock your phone into this cradle with one hand. The trigger button sits proud of the otherwise flat back and once you set your phone onto the surface the light pressure causes the foam padded sides to spring in clamping your phone securely in place.
The unit holds devices with widths of 2.3 to 3.2 inches including the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, / 5S / 5C / 5 / 4S, Galaxy S5/S4/S3/S2, Galaxy Note 2/3/4, HTC One M8, Google Nexus 5/4, LG G2/G3, Droid RAZR MAXX etc.
The bottom support foot slides left and right to suit each phones ports and allow your cables to exit unhindered.
To release your phone you pinch in the two buttons at either side of the cradle which forces out the side arms which lock into their extended position ready to clamp back down on your return. This can be done with one hand too although you may like to grab larger phones by the top while you are doing it.
After 5 months of using this thing I can definitely recommend the iOttie Easy One Touch 2.

I’ve got one of their older models and the gel suction pad is very good indeed – as long as it’s clean (rinse under water to refresh), it never falls off like most of the rest. Recommended!
