Velux Windows / Blinds Feedback Help

Hello, does anyone still read these forums, been very quiet of late? Hope so as I need some advice please.

I've recently had to change the box that Cortex uses to open and close my electric Velux windows/blinds. It was a dumb box that if you touched two wires together it sent a signal to open the windows, another two and it closed them etc.. Same for the blinds. I use a DRH to do the switching. Anyway the Velux box failed and Velux suggested an upgrade.

The new Velux control box does the same, except it has the ability to close a separate contact once the open or close operation has been completed. Which I'm guessing I could wire into a digital input to let Cortex know something has happened...

I'm just not sure how I'd program Cortex to achieve this... Any suggestions please?

    Thanks Chris.

I think when this web site was updated a few months ago, user settings for notifying of new posts were not carried over, probably because it would not have been easy to migrate selected equivalents automatically. So possibly we may have to let others know to check their new settings via our e-mail list.

In respect of your question, to some extent it depends on whether you are using a motor control object to represent and control the blinds. If you are then this object has inputs for limit switches (both for those that indicate fully open or fully closed reached). However in your description you say contact closed once operation is completed so maybe we need to have additional clarification about what the signal means. Is it some kind of momentary closure once either open or closed is reached? Or is contact open whilst blind is moving and then closed when reaches either closed or open?. Or other ?

Hi Karam, good to know there's life in the forum yet!

Yes I'm using one motor control object for the windows and another for the blinds. On doing some testing it seems a relay closes in the Velux box for 2 seconds once the blinds are fully open. The same relay closes again for 2 seconds once the blinds are fully closed. There's a second relay associated with the windows that ha the same behaviour.

      Is that useful?

      Thanks,
      Chris

sounds a useful feature - can be used to signal the actual state or the windows & blinds - rather than just the commanded state ...

for our garage doors, we have reed relays at each end of travel ... connected to digital inputs thence to some Logic which causes relays in a virtual (ie: not enabled) DRB to change state - thence the relay can announce whatever you choose ... useful because we then know if the doors are open opening closing or closed, wherever we are in the house ... can see the state in PlanView, too

NB: thanks to Karam for alerting me to the new form of this forum - me having neglected it for ages !

PS: found the Forum wouldn't work with Firefox, but does with Chrome ...
