HomeSeer Technologies has just unveiled its new “HomeTroller-Mini” home automation controller. The tiny ‘PC in a Plug’ device offers remote home control using the latest Apple and Android smart phones, tablet PCs and other devices. It’s running Linux on a 1GHz processor and is slated to begin shipping in the 2nd quarter of 2011 retailing for under $300…
“Although HomeTroller-Mini is tiny in stature and fits in the palm of your hand, it is big on features and performance. The unit sports an energy efficient 1.0 GHz Linux platform that will outperform any other comparable gateway device. As with other HomeTrollers™, HomeTroller-Mini supports Z-Wave® and many other existing home automation technologies. Alerts, announcements and reminders may be issued by email, text message or by voice (text to speech). Home energy usage may also be monitor and controlled with HomeTroller-Mini. HomeTroller-Mini is slated to begin shipping in the 2nd quarter of 2011 and will retail for under $300.”

Hmmm that looks like surprisingly like a http://www.ionicsplug.com/nimbus100.html or http://www.ionicsplug.com/nimbus200.html at $99… with someone whose added Z-Wave.
The Stratus + Wifi + Z-Wave is $142..
Yes it looks very like a Sheeva / PogoPlug etc.
I think you’ve left the cost of the HomeSeer software out of your equation though.
Looks good! Funny this as i was reading about the Pro100 and z-wave today this looks like a cheaper option will defantly consider when it’s released.
Otto-Mate, that’s my point. $158/$200 is big whack for an OS – Win 7 (doing development for ARM processors at the moment) you can get ultimate for $100, Linux you get for beer.
Vera’s a bit cheaper overall (save $50, though is bigger but does have two Ethernet ports), and I imagine the hardware was even cheaper than this.
I just wonder at the markup whether more would sell at a cheaper price.
LOL, what a difference a year makes:

It’s also possible to use LinuxMCE mini distribution – http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=10696.0 and GruPlug to build Z-Wave controller by yourself 🙂
