In addition Ube say their smart phone application can control over 200 IP based devices including smart TVs, set top boxes, AV receivers, DVD players, thermostats, garage door openers and more. We contacted them to see if they had any plans to bring the system to the UK and the response was very positive…
The electronics in our smart dimmer, smart plug and smart outlet support 110/220V and 50/60Hz auto detect. The first production run in early 2013 will have form factors for the US market. This allows us to simplify and focus so that we can begin production. After that, we will roll out other form factors for worldwide markets. UK will be the first as one of our investors is from the UK.

Ube (pronounced “yoo-bee”) today unveiled disruptive technology for the connected home market, bypassing central home processing units and expensive programming with a free mobile app and IP connected ‘appcessories’ at DEMO Fall 2012, world-renowned for launching the most innovative companies in enterprise, mobile, cloud computing, consumer, social media and disruptive technologies.
Ube is home technology simplified. The app is built using standard IP protocols to easily control IP enabled smart devices for the connected home from an iPhone or Android smartphone, eliminating the expense of extra hardware and programming. The app can control over 200 IP based devices including smart TVs, set top boxes, AV receivers, DVD players, thermostats,
garage door openers and more. Ube communicates with IP enabled devices directly from the smart phone using a standard Wi-Fi router to send commands when the user is at home or over any wireless internet connection when away from home using the Ube Cloud. To extend consumer control into systems that lack an IP connection, the company unveiled three key IP
enabled devices. These include an IP based smart dimmer, smart wall outlet and smart plug. By moving the intelligence into the device – where it belongs – these smart energy devices enable simple, intuitive smartphone control of home lighting and other appliances.
“Creating a truly connected home without Ube costs thousands of dollars, requires specialized central processing hardware and even more expensive programming and maintenance,’ commented Utz Baldwin, Co-founder and CEO of Ube. “With Ube, anyone can control systems and devices in their home using a Smartphone, a Wi-Fi Router and the Cloud. Lights, TVs, Set
Top Boxes, Thermostats and much more become easily accessible. Ube is the essence of disruptive technology and we’re incredibly excited to collaborate with DEMO to unveil our technology and first products.”Ube will provide a live, six-minute demonstration of the app plus the IP based lighting dimmer, wall outlet and plug on the DEMO Fall 2012 stage at 3:45pm on Tuesday, October 2nd and will host live demonstrations beginning today at Booth D17 in the DEMO Fall 2012 pavilion. Simultaneously Ube launches home technology simplified on Kickstarter under the heading of “Ube: Home Technology Simplified.”
“DEMO Fall 2012 is bringing these game-changing technologies to the launch stage and showcasing what our future holds,” said Matt Marshall, executive producer of DEMO.

I hope it’s introduced at a reasonable price, will be eager to see how much it costs.
This looks exciting for the retro fit DIY market. I’m sure it will outsell Lightwave with the added IP control over devices from the same app. As Thomas says, the price needs to be right. Would be interested to know if it will be able to control Global Cache iTach devices as well as then the options are fairly limitless!
